Brexit – Great Britain with Passport – Travel

Brexit:Great Britain with passport

The German identity card is no longer sufficient for a trip to Great Britain from October 1, 2021. Citizens of the EU, the European Economic Area and Switzerland then need a valid passport. A visa, however, is still not required. The background to the new entry regulation is Brexit, i.e. the departure of Great Britain from the EU. There is an exception to the requirement for a passport for certain people: Anyone who has a “settled” or “pre-settled” status, is a cross-border commuter or an “S2 Healthcare Visitor” can use their ID card until December 31, 2025 Use entry. The Federal Foreign Office currently has a travel warning for Great Britain. The country is classified as a high-risk corona area due to the high number of cases. Various requirements apply to entry from Germany from the British side. Unvaccinated people have to be quarantined when they return to Germany.
