An incident occurred during the Cannes Film Festival in which the police were called in.

Excitement in Cannes: As part of this year’s film festival, there was a brief incident on Saturday afternoon in which a special police unit had to be called in, among other things the industry magazine “Variety” reports.

Entrance to the palace cordoned off

The police therefore briefly cordoned off a section of the Croisette and the entrance to the palace. The festival’s press office confirmed to the magazine that a suspicious object was found on the street, but not inside. According to the report, a special police unit was seen checking a backpack. However, the entrance and the Croisette section were reopened shortly afterwards.

“There was something that they thought was a bomb, but it wasn’t a bomb,” Variety quoted an employee at an information desk as saying. “It was a mistake,” said a woman from the festival’s security office. However, she did not want to go into detail about the incident. After determining that the item was on city property, the festival referred the matter to local police. She did not want to comment on the incident.

At the time of the incident, several performances were taking place in the palace, but according to security personnel, none of the halls had to be evacuated. During the festival, there are increased security precautions in Cannes to protect the numerous visitors and stars from possible dangers.
