The search for six-year-old Arian from Bremervörde continues unabated. A private surveillance camera provides new insights. Now parents and emergency services are hoping for prepared balloons.
As the police confirmed on Wednesday afternoon, Arian left his parents’ house alone at around 7:15 p.m. on Monday wearing an ocher-yellow, long-sleeved sweater and black sweatpants. This was shown by images from a private surveillance camera. He has been missing since then. Hundreds of emergency services have been searching for the autistic boy in the adjacent forest areas near Bremervörde since Monday evening. Even on the third day there were no clues as to where the six-year-old could be.
Rescuers put hope in balloons
Late on Wednesday afternoon, according to information from NDR Lower Saxony, the emergency services resorted to an unusual measure in the search for Arian. Since the six-year-old is said to be fascinated by balloons, colorful balloons and sweets will now be hung at 17 locations in the search area. Small cameras with motion sensors are attached to the balloons. If a camera goes off, the rescuers should receive a message at the same time.
Search with drones and dogs
During the large-scale search, the police, fire brigade, DLRG and DRK used extensive technical equipment. According to police reports, a police helicopter searched the forest areas from the air in the morning. In addition, several drones circled over the search corridors. There were also numerous search dogs out and about in the woods again. According to their own information, the police have been using sonar boats and divers on and in the Oste since Wednesday morning.
Search for Arian: Bundeswehr tornado flies over the area
The situation is very serious, “every hour counts,” said a police spokesman. But we still have hope and continue to search with undiminished commitment. Everyone is motivated. “The biggest goal is to find the boy,” emphasized the spokesman. The search radius on water and on land may need to be expanded. On Tuesday evening, a Bundeswehr tornado equipped with a thermal imaging camera flew over the residential area in the Bremervörde district of Elm. The images have not yet been evaluated, the spokesman told NDR Lower Saxony on Wednesday morning.
The child we are looking for is autistic – and does not respond to being spoken to
Because the child is autistic and does not respond to being spoken to, the situation and the search for him are particularly difficult, a police spokesman said on Tuesday. “We have to search very closely because we have to assume that he won’t come forward on his own.” On Tuesday, around 200 fire and police forces formed a chain to search a forest area – without success.
Elm: Six-year-old only wears socks
According to the information, six-year-old Arian Arnold was wearing light clothing – and no shoes – at the time of his disappearance. A spokesman described the situation as “dramatic” given the currently freezing temperatures at night. Subzero temperatures could be life-threatening for a little boy wearing light clothing. According to a police spokesman, it is unclear how the boy was able to leave the house. The background could therefore be that he recently learned how to open locked doors.
Hundreds of emergency services and volunteers are combing the area
Since Monday evening, the fire department has been on the road with more than 400 people, said fire department spokesman Lasse Geestmann on Tuesday. In addition, helpers from the German Red Cross (DRK), the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) and police officers were looking for the boy. In total, around 600 people were involved at times. Together they searched the area around the boy’s home. From the residential area, a small unpaved road leads past a rapeseed field to a wooded area. It is unclear whether the child took this route. According to a fire department spokesman, police dogs reported something in some places.

Residents should check surveillance cameras
On Tuesday, the police asked residents to check private camera recordings. People in the district should check whether the boy can be seen on surveillance cameras. Although the town was searched by emergency services, it was “quite possible” that the missing boy was on private property in the area, a police spokesman said. It is conceivable that six-year-old Arian is in a shed or similar hiding place.
