Breakthrough in nuclear fusion: For the first time excess energy – Knowledge

Delivering more energy than you pump in: That should actually be the minimum goal of every power plant. In the case of nuclear fusion, however, which involves nothing less than replicating the burning of the sun in miniature format, things are a little different. Despite some progress, both large state research projects and private companies have not been able to demonstrate a net energy gain for decades. Instead, exploding costs and delays plague many projects. Previous record yields are around 70 percent of the energy put into it. But now US researchers seem to have made a breakthrough.
