Konstanze Klosterhalfen won the gold medal over 5000 meters at the European Championships in Munich.

The German long-distance runner Konstanze Klosterhalfen won the gold medal in a brilliant race over 5000 meters at the European Championships in Munich. In doing so, she fulfilled her wish to win a medal in front of her own audience after she had only finished fourth in the 10,000 meters on Monday evening.

“I have no words,” said the new European champion right after the race into the ARD microphones about her first international title. The 25-year-old also attributed her commanding race to the loud support of the crowd. She “didn’t do it alone today”. After fourth place over the long distance, Klosterhalfen was initially not supposed to start at all, but decided to start for the German public.
