The longing for small Italian cafés haunts one or two Munich residents again and again. This cannot be satisfied not far from the Bavarian state parliament: in Ismaninger Straße, Cupital No. 3 Italian flair for its guests. Some enjoy an espresso at the bar, others take a panino with them or sit outside in good weather and drink an aperitif.

That in Cupital No. 3 doesn’t really have a breakfast menu, doesn’t seem to bother anyone – the focus here is on the coffee anyway. The restaurant writes on its website that it represents the “Third Wave” specialty coffee movement. Means: Coffee is seen here as a luxury food – not just as a drink that wakes you up. So it’s no wonder that the English word “Cup” – in German: cup – is hidden in the name of the restaurant.

Anyone who sees the café’s white awning from Max-Weber-Platz might think that Cupital No. 3 offers only a few places. But in addition to the golden round tables directly at the entrance, there are other seats in the passageway to the inner courtyard. Here you don’t have the best view of the street, but at least the sun shines towards you.

If you go inside the restaurant, you can watch the waiters behind the large bar as they prepare coffee and food. There is more seating at the back. Turquoise-blue cushions, matching the color of the walls, lie on the brown benches. Square tables in light wood and black chairs stand in a line opposite. What is striking are the many pictures in black-and-white optics: in addition to photos of female models, there are also retro-style coffee pictures on the walls.

The many black and white images are striking.
