Boxing: Usyk successfully defends world title against Dubois

The Ukrainian heavyweight boxing world champion Oleksander Usyk has also successfully mastered his second title defense.

The 36-year-old champion of the IBF, WBA and WBO associations won in Wroclaw, Poland, against British challenger Daniel Dubois (25) in the ninth round by knockout.

Still undefeated

Usyk, who is still undefeated in 21 professional fights, was clearly the boss in the ring at the beginning and, thanks to his nimble leading hand, hardly let his opponent develop. Only after a low blow from Dubois in the fifth round did the fight become more even. At the end of the eighth round, the challenger went on the boards for the first time. The next precipitation followed a short time later, after which the fight was over. Before the fight, Usyk had stressed that he wanted to “bring glory to the flag” of his war-torn homeland.

A few minutes before the first gong, the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was connected with a video. The strength of the Ukrainians is as mighty as that of Usyk, and the strength of the allies as great as that of Dubois, Zelenskyy said.

Usyk actually wanted to compete against the British WBC world champion Tyson Fury for a title unification fight, but the planned mega fight had burst due to Fury’s repeated demands.
