Bottleneck at children’s clinics in the greater Nuremberg – Bavaria area

The children’s clinics in the greater Nuremberg area are working to the limit. As the Fürth Clinic, the Cnopfsche Children’s Clinic Nuremberg and the Erlangen University Clinic jointly report, an above-average number of children with respiratory infections currently have to be treated. In some cases, recordings are hardly possible, but care in the clinics is ensured by patient transfers between the clinics. The reason for the bottleneck are respiratory diseases, especially infections with the RS virus, which this year appear much earlier than usual. Normally, such diseases only become more frequent in the winter months. But with the elimination of the corona contact restrictions, the children are now apparently catching up with infections. A lack of space, a shortage of nurses and staff absences due to illness are currently causing the children’s clinics to become overburdened.
