Three years after the insolvency of the former parent company Thomas Cook, the traditional Neckermann Reisen brand is being revived. From next week, package tours can be booked there again.

The traditional brand Neckermann Reisen is returning. From April 5th, package holidays can again be booked with Neckermann Reisen under the umbrella of the Anex Group. Anex acquired the trademark rights to Neckermann Reisen in early 2020 from the insolvency estate of the British-German travel group Thomas Cook. This had already got into serious economic difficulties in autumn 2019 shortly before the start of the corona pandemic and finally went bankrupt. Anex itself was founded in 1996 and is headquartered in Antalya, Turkey.

According to Neckermann Reisen, around 1,000 hotels in Spain, Greece, Turkey and Egypt can be booked for the current summer season. Package tours to Bulgaria, Italy, Croatia, Portugal and Tunisia are to follow. There are also plans to gradually offer destinations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland to which holidaymakers can travel themselves. According to Neckermann Director Michael Nickel, Neckermann Reisen intends to concentrate primarily on offers for families and high-spending holidaymakers aged 50 and over with hotels in the four-star category.

Before the parent company went bankrupt in 2019, Neckermann Reisen had a long tradition as a provider of package tours.

Long tradition

Neckermann Reisen was founded in the early 1960s under the name “Neckermann und Reisen” by Josef Neckermann as an extension of his mail order company. With comparatively cheap flight packages, Neckermann made bathing holidays in so-called “warm water destinations” affordable for broad sections of the population during the period of the German economic miracle after the Second World War.
