Bomb in Günzburg: Police are preparing to block the A8 for detonation – Bavaria

In preparation for the detonation of a World War II bomb in Günzburg, the police are preparing a complete closure of Autobahn 8 (Munich-Stuttgart) in this area. A police spokesman said on Thursday morning that a restricted zone would be set up within a half kilometer radius of the bomb found in an industrial area.

Part of the Legoland park, the campsite and the amusement park’s holiday village are also in the evacuation zone. These areas are no longer accessible, the spokesman said. A helicopter will still search the area for people. The A8 will then be closed and the demolition carried out. The police are still open as to how long the autobahn and federal highway 16 in the Günzburg area will have to be closed.

The bomb was discovered on Wednesday morning in a commercial area next to the amusement park. It is filled with 30 kilograms of explosives and cannot be defused. Therefore, the bomb should be detonated. Preparations have been under way since 7 a.m. The event was originally scheduled to end around 11:00 a.m.
