The future runs on electricity, but when is the future? Rarely has a form of drive had such teething problems as e-mobility. Electric cars have been around for 140 years, and modern batteries have driven development – but success has remained manageable. Even purchase bonuses do not change the basic skepticism of many consumers. “Climate protection cannot be achieved without the customer in mind. That simply doesn’t work,” says BMW boss Oliver Zipse. Many reservations boil down to one and the same thing: the technology is not fully developed. But at BMW we are convinced that the future will not begin at some point, but next year.
