Populations of black-tailed godwit and whinchat have continued to decline, according to nationwide mapping of meadow breeders. These two species are threatened with extinction in Bavaria in the next few years and decades, according to the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (LfU) in Augsburg and the Nature Conservation Association LBV in Hilpoltstein.
According to this, endangered species of meadow breeders such as curlew, corncrake and whinchat are scientifically recorded in Bavaria every six years. According to the LfU and LBV, the stocks of curlew and redshank have stabilized at a low level thanks to the protective measures. However, the long-term trends are still negative for all species examined. Problem children are the black-tailed godwit and the whinchat, where the stocks have declined significantly. In order to preserve the species, further efforts are therefore necessary.
