Black blocks causing degradation, denounces the prefecture

The demonstration of May 1, Monday, in Montpellier (Hérault), was marred by damage in the city center, deplores the prefecture on Twitter. Bus shelters were damaged and shop windows were broken. Tags, including an inscription calling for the murder of police officers, were written on facades.

According to the services of the prefecture of Hérault, “about twenty black blocks”, present Monday in the Montpellier procession, are suspected of being at the origin of these degradations. The prefect, Hugues Moutouh, indicates on Twitter that he “condemns these acts which have nothing to do with the freedom to demonstrate and which are the work of thugs”.

Monday, for the May 1 parade, opponents of the pension reform were 8,000, according to state services, and 18,000, according to the unions, in the streets of Montpellier.
