Birkenau cycle by Gerhard Richter in the International Youth Meeting Center Auschwitz – Culture

You can get to the Auschwitz International Youth Meeting Center from the train station through a residential area with high apartment buildings, then turn left at the shopping center. And there it lies, like a place of security. Several low houses in the countryside, built with a lot of wood, guest rooms, a cafeteria that looks more like a restaurant, event rooms, exhibition areas. On the same large street, in the opposite direction, is the Auschwitz memorial and the barracks. You don’t get to see anything of the core of the small town of Oświęcim with its market square, the castle, the synagogue and the large Church of Our Lady; that’s on the other side of the river, the Soła.
