Ms. Schmid, your son Louie would be 18 today. Why is now the time when you write about the grief for your deceased child?
Two years after the birth I wrote a longer text about the stillbirth for “Das Magazin”. I haven’t written about it since then, except in my diary. At the end of last year, when I turned 50, there was a turning point. I took a break anyway and at some point it became clear that I had to write about it again to deal with the event and my aging.
