Biden plays appeasement on Ukraine, better protected whistleblowers and Mbappé saves Paris

Did you miss the news this early morning? We’ve put together a recap to help you see things more clearly.

Russia announced on Wednesday the end of military maneuvers and the departure of some of its forces from the annexed Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea, where the deployment of troops fueled fears of an invasion of Ukraine. “The units of the southern military district having completed their tactical exercises on the bases of the Crimean peninsula are returning by rail to their home base,” said the Russian Ministry of Defense, quoted by Russian agencies. Europeans and Americans are still awaiting proof of a major Russian military withdrawal, while saying they are cautiously optimistic. Russia has not specified the extent or timing of this withdrawal.

Parliament set to strengthen protection for whistleblowers

Whistleblowers will be able to fear speaking out a little less. Parliament is indeed preparing to definitively adopt this Wednesday a bill aimed at better protecting and supporting them. The text, which was the subject of an agreement between deputies and senators at the beginning of the month, must be submitted to a final vote in the afternoon in the Senate. Worked with the Ministry of Justice, the Council of State and associations, the bill defines more precisely the status of these whistleblowers, guides their actions, strengthens their rights or even facilitates their financial and psychological support.

We had to stay until the end on Tuesday evening at the Parc des Princes…. really to the end. A last-minute feat from Kylian Mbappé allowed PSG to win a deserved success against Real Madrid (1-0), in a Champions League round of 16 first leg, also marked by Lionel Messi’s missed penalty. “Kyky” once again proved indispensable in Paris by unlocking the Madrid lock with a goal (90th + 4) in his image, full of speed and accuracy. William Pereira, our special correspondent in the Parisian lair, comes back for you on the performance of PSG and especially on that of Mbappé who knew how to ignore, in the best of ways, the transfer window of this summer.
