Philipp Nawrath is wearing the yellow jersey for the second time. In Hochfilzen the biathlete can look forward to special support – and wants to build on his successes.

World Cup leader Philipp Nawrath was literally overwhelmed with congratulations after his sensational start to the biathlon season.

“The response was huge and very positive, that made me incredibly happy,” said the 30-year-old Bavarian to the German Press Agency in Hochfilzen. But nothing changed in his attitude and approach before the sprint (11.30 a.m./ARD and Eurosport) in Austria: “In general, we all stayed the same. Everything continues in the same way.”

After three races this season, Nawrath leads the overall standings by just one point over the Swede Sebastian Samuelsson. “It’s great that I can compete again with the yellow jersey,” said Nawrath, who is also looking forward to a lot of support not far from home. “There are a lot of German fans coming, my family will be there too. It’s great that you can have an experience like that here,” he said.

In terms of sport, Nawrath wants to focus on the sprint last Saturday in Sweden. He celebrated his first career victory over ten kilometers and made no shooting mistakes.
