“Right Said Fred’s statements that Beyoncé used ‘I’m Too Sexy’ in ‘Alien Superstar’ without permission are false and derogatory,” reads an exclusive Statement for “Entertainment Weekly”. “Not only was permission granted for use, they even spoke publicly of their gratitude for being on the album.”

In the statement, the 41-year-old clarifies that only the composition of “I’m Too Sexy” was used for “Alien Superstar”, the sound recordings were not used. “The publisher was asked for permission on May 11, 2022, the publisher approved the use on June 15, 2022. Payment was made in August 2022,” it continues.

During their interview, Right Said Fred called the “Halo” hitmaker an “arrogant person.” They wouldn’t have found out that “I’m Too Sexy” was used for “Alien Superstar” until after the album’s release. In addition, the duo pointed out that artists such as Drake (35) and Taylor Swift (32) had personally asked their permission to sample their songs.

Beyoncé only got into trouble in July

Beyoncé only had to deal with similar allegations in July. Singer Kelis (43) complained that her song “Milkshake” was used without permission for the track “Energy”. In an Instagram video She described this action as “stupid and disrespectful”. The sample has since been removed from the song on many streaming platforms.
