The British royals have millions of followers on Twitter. These tweets received the most likes in 2021.

As for many other people, 2021 was a year full of ups and downs for the British royals. This is reflected in the most frequently liked tweets on the Twitter account of Prince William (39) and his wife, Duchess Kate (39) , as a listing of the US magazine “People” shows.

With a little more than 108,000 “likes” here is a tweet in the first placepublished by William after England lost on penalties in the European Championship final against Italy. “I am disgusted by the racist insults that were directed against the English players after last night’s game,” said the royal after the athletes Bukayo Saka (20), Marcus Rashford (24) and Jadon Sancho (21) massively had been attacked.

On the other hand, short messages on pleasant occasions make it to second and third place. A portrait published on the birthday of Prince George (8) has had more than 99,000 likes so far and a family video for the tenth wedding anniversary from Kate and William has a little over 95,000 likes.

Mourning for Prince Philip

Meanwhile, a particularly large number of people mourned Prince Philip (1921-2021), who died in April, on the Royal Family account. No other tweet was posted on the profile therefore liked it more often in 2021 (around 581,000 times) than the sad news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II’s long-term husband (95).

Behind it follows a picture of the deceased, which was published on the day of his funeral, with nearly 197,000 likes. In third place is a private picture with about 176,000 likes, which the Royals posted shortly before. In the photo, the Queen and the Prince Consort are smiling together towards the camera in Scotland in 2003.
