It is in keeping with the Berlin Philharmonic’s high level of self-confidence that, four days before Christmas, they are putting on an Israel benefit concert for themselves and their audience, in the fully occupied Philharmonic Hall at 4 p.m. “Together for humanity” is the reserved motto. Around twenty musicians at the concert and the orchestra with Kirill Petrenko “demand the immediate release of all hostages and the protection of all civilians on both sides.” The musicians are also concerned with “humanitarian aid to the civilian population in the Gaza Strip.”
