Berlin coalition building: Giffey rescues SPD into government (opinion)

During the coalition negotiations in Berlin, Franziska Giffey saved herself and the SPD into government because she was the quickest to recognize the realities.

In Formula 1 one knows the so-called undercut. A driver goes to the pit stop early in order to then overtake a direct competitor with fresh tires, who only steers his car to the tank hose later. The maneuver with which Franziska Giffey is now trying to save herself and the SPD in a coalition with the CDU is a flawless undercut: Giffey gave up the fight for the Red City Hall surprisingly early and thus tricked the Greens and their top candidate Bettina Jarasch.
