A real estate entrepreneur gives the Berlin CDU 820,000 euros. A lot of money, but legally flawless. If it weren’t for a new report that raises doubts.
There were two payments that were noticeable because of their enormous size. The real estate entrepreneur Christoph Gröner donated 320,000 euros to the Berlin CDU in 2020. There was a further 500,000 euros from Gröner Family Office GmbH, of which Gröner was managing director at the time. So much money for the state association of a party – that is news in itself. In Berlin, where there is hardly anything as fiercely debated as housing policy due to sharply rising rents, 820,000 euros from a real estate entrepreneur is very special news.
