Institutional investors with assets of more than $100 million are required to report their holdings to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on a quarterly basis. Berkshire Hathaway boss Warren Buffett also has to submit the 13F form every quarter, which is publicly available to the authority. The document for the third quarter of 2023 was published on November 14, 2023, the data was as of September 30, 2023.
As in the previous quarter, veteran Warren Buffett held back from major buying or selling activities in the third quarter. After the star investor invested heavily in Occidental Petroleum in the second quarter of the year, he reaped the fruits of his labor in the current reporting quarter, as the shares rose significantly in price.
What was noticeable, however, was that two of the largest holdings in Berkshire’s portfolio apparently fell out of favor in the third quarter. In addition to HP, this also affected another oil company from which Buffett cashed in.
