Bérénice Béjo and Romain Duris thought they would never succeed in playing the first scene

Bérénice Béjo and Romain Duris do not go there with the back of the spoon in Cut! by Michael Hazavanicius. The duo is part of the crew of a zombie film that follows this dynamic comedy as rich in gags as in surprises which offers a joyful opening to the Cannes Film Festival.

35 minute sequence shot

“It’s not just a parody of genre films, confides Romain Duris to 20 minutes. It’s also a tour de force with a 35-minute sequence shot. This first scene, shot in one shot without cutting the camera, will leave many spectators perplexed, but it is essential to enjoy the series of gags that prolong it.

“We were afraid of not getting there because there were many of us, says Bérénice Béjo, but Michel remained incredibly calm. The filmmaker was right to trust his troupe, which also includes Finnegan Oldfield, Jean-Pascal Zadi, Grégory Gadebois and his own daughter, Simone Hazanavicius, who is making a brilliant screen debut. This virtuoso sequence which takes all its salt in the second part of the film is a pure success.

“It was not easy to comply with the requirements of the special effects, recognizes Bérénice Béjo, especially since I knock out the living dead with a vengeance after fifteen minutes. All it took was one mistake in the middle of the shot to have to start all over again! “We sometimes felt like a little panic,” remembers Romain Duris. The game was well worth the candle, which the public and festival-goers will be able to judge on pieces by discovering Cut! its overwhelmed film crew and hungry undead.
