Ben Affleck has received a lot of criticism for his comments about his marriage to Jennifer Garner. Now he commented on it.

Ben Affleck (49) received a shit storm on social media for comments about his alcohol addiction and his marriage to ex-wife Jennifer Garner (49). On the show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” “The Tender Bar” star moved his statements from an interview with radio presenter Howard Stern (67) rightly so, according to US media reports. There he had said, among other things, that he would “probably still drink” if he had stayed married to Garner.

“I would never want my children to think that I would ever say a bad word about their mother,” Affleck said to Jimmy Kimmel (54). The actor and Garner have daughters Violet (16) and Seraphina (12) and son Samuel (9).

Out of context

Affleck said it wasn’t until after the interview with Stern aired that he noticed how his comments were being perceived. Some people would have taken the conversation and turned it around by focusing only on part of it.

He said that in the Stern interview, he said further about Garner, “how much we respect and care for one another and take care of our children and put them first”. Affleck added that the part of the conversation that got attention now makes him stand out as “the worst, most insensitive, stupid, terrible guy”.

He understands that his private life makes headlines, according to Affleck. But when it concerns his family, he must “draw a line and create clarity”. The Hollywood star made it clear again: “That’s not true. I don’t think so. It’s the exact opposite of who I am and what I believe.”

“Unhappy” relationship

Affleck had told Stern among other things that he felt trapped in his marriage to Garner. “We had a marriage that didn’t work. That happened. She was someone I loved and respected, but who I shouldn’t have been married to anymore.”

The actor also reports that drinking was his exit strategy. “I thought, ‘I can’t go because of my kids, but I’m unhappy, what should I do?’ What I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which wasn’t a solution. “

The actor couple was married from 2005 to 2018, they separated in 2015. Affleck has been treated several times for his alcohol addiction. For a few months he has been happy with Jennifer Lopez (52) – with whom he was together from 2002 to 2004.
