At Real Madrid things are still not going according to plan for Eden Hazard. Now he also has to deal with harsh criticism from his homeland.

Jean-Marie Dedecker, Belgian ex-judoka, politician and mayor of the Belgian city of Middelkerke, has sharply criticized Eden Hazard.

“The whole press complains about him. He’s really just a little fat man who has gotten fat because of the system and the money,” he said in an interview with the Belgian newspaper Krant van West-Vlaanderen.

“I can still see him running away”: Sharp criticism of Eden Hazard

“I can still see him running away when Georges Leekens replaced him and he had a burger near the King Baudouin Stadium,” said Dedecker.

He was referring to an incident when Hazard was substituted for an international match against Turkey in 2011 and then Fast food took to himself. He was then banned from the action for two games.

Dedecker does not have much confidence in the Belgian national team for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. “The Red Devils will not be successful in Qatar. Some players are past their careers,” he said.

Dedecker: Belgium an “aging generation”

“Kevin De Bruyne has to stop being a substitute. The same goes for Romelu Lukaku or Dries Mertens. It’s an aging generation. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think so,” said the ex-athlete.

Hazard has not managed to assert himself at Los Blancos since moving from Chelsea to Real Madrid for 115 million euros in 2019. He always struggles with being overweight and is in the current season with a meager two assists and zero goals in 16 appearances.
