It’s always said that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover – don’t judge a book by its cover. But this face of the book shouldn’t leave anyone who sees it in their bookstore untouched. It shows a barn owl swooping down on its prey out of the deep inky night, feathers splayed and claws stretched, a delightful watercolor snapshot, agile and energetic, delicate and firm like its subject, all plumage, in a way , as the corresponding photography could never manage.
