The driver of the coach from Lower Bavaria, which crashed in Austria last Saturday, is said to have warned the 32 passengers at the last second. According to witness statements, he called out: “I can’t brake, hold on tight,” a police spokesman in Graz confirmed on Thursday, a report by the Bayern media group. Whether it was a personal or a technical problem has yet to be clarified. A technical report is still pending, the police spokesman said.
The 51-year-old driver has since succumbed to his injuries, it said. A 31-year-old groom from Triftern in the Rottal-Inn district died in the accident late on Saturday evening – on his own bachelor party. Four occupants were seriously injured and 26 slightly injured. With the exception of one person, all of the injured have been released from the hospital, the police spokesman said.
