Bear in Bavaria: Another animal was caught by a photo trap – Bavaria

A wildlife camera photographed a brown bear in the Traunstein district. It is still unclear whether this is the animal that killed sheep in April.

A brown bear has again been detected in the southwestern district of Traunstein. He was recorded by a wildlife camera on Sunday, the State Office for the Environment reported on Monday in Augsburg. In addition, another bear indication from the Upper Bavarian district is currently being examined. Already in April, the authority had reported paw prints of a bear in the snow. After that, sheep that had been killed and had been attacked by a bear were found on a mountain pasture in the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim.

The State Office recommended that livestock farmers in the region of the recent bear sightings bring the animals into stables at night and take livestock protection measures. “The local population and those seeking relaxation are asked to observe the rules of conduct when dealing with wild animals and to be attentive and careful when engaging in outdoor activities,” it said.

When hiking, it is important not to leave any leftovers or rubbish in nature. It is not yet clear whether the bear sightings are always just one animal. An individualization based on a photo or the prints of the paws is not possible, the authority emphasized.
