Bayreuth: custody after racist attack on city council – Bavaria

About two weeks after an attack with racist insults on a Bayreuth city council, a suspect is in custody. “The investigations by the Bayreuth criminal police and the Bayreuth public prosecutor’s office have now led to the issuing of an arrest warrant,” said a police spokesman on Saturday.

The suspect was arrested after the attack, but was released after being questioned. After evaluating the results of the investigation, the public prosecutor had applied for an arrest warrant, it said.

An investigating judge finally issued the arrest warrant. However, the man had been in hiding for several days. Finally, on Friday evening, he was arrested in Hof.

SPD city councilor Halil Tasdelen was the victim of the attack, as he and his brother, Arif Tasdelen (SPD), a member of the state parliament, announced on Twitter. According to Tasdelen, he suffered, among other things, a double broken nose. The attack happened suddenly.
