Sabine Dunaew was on the plane to Rhodes with her husband and ten-year-old son. They were already several hours late when they were told they would be taking off soon – but without luggage. “How without luggage?” they asked, says Dunaev, 33. After some back and forth with the crew and the pilot, they got out again, with other families, including travelers who could not do without medication from their suitcases on vacation. The flight went without her. Hours of waiting in the terminal followed. At some point it became clear: the whole holiday would fall through.
