Bavarian early history: the find of the century from Irlbach – Bavaria

73 years ago, during construction work in Straubing, a copper cauldron containing a fantastic treasure was discovered. Roman parade armor, face helmets, weapons and tools came to light. The valuables kept today in the Gäubodenmuseum are a feast for the eyes and are considered to be one of the most important Roman finds in Germany. You have to keep that in mind if you want to classify the treasures that have now come to light in a grave from the 5th century BC in the municipality of Irlbach (district of Straubing-Bogen). The Straubinger district archaeologist Ludwig Husty is so enthusiastic that he speaks of a “highlight for Bavarian archaeology”. He even says: “I probably put this find of the century on the same level as the famous Roman treasure trove from Straubing.”
