Bavaria: Water levels have risen in some cases – relaxation in sight at the weekend – Bavaria

In parts of Bavaria, water levels rose slightly again on Wednesday following rainfall overnight. The water levels on the Danube remain high, as a spokeswoman for the Bavarian flood intelligence service announced. Reporting level 3 out of 4 is expected in some cases in the coming days. According to the spokeswoman, the flood situation can be expected to worsen in the section of the Danube between Deggendorf and Passau. In Kelheim, reporting level 3 could be reached – this means that individual built-up properties or cellars can be flooded and regional transport connections may have to be closed.

According to the information, the flood situation in Bavaria is generally decreasing, but only slowly due to the rain. On Wednesday, the Thann/Altmühl, Harburg/Wörnitz and Warnbach/Schwarzach gauges initially showed flooding at reporting level 2. Individual gauges in the Main catchment area were also affected. According to the flood service, relief is in sight for the weekend. The German Weather Service (DWD) lifted the thaw warning on Wednesday.

Due to the increased water level and the resulting stronger current, there was a shipping accident on the Danube near Regensburg on Tuesday. A passenger cabin ship touched the edge of a bridge pillar and then hit a decommissioned motor tanker. Nobody was injured in the accident. The amount of property damage was initially unknown. The DWD expects further showers in Bavaria in the next few days. It remains mild, said a spokesman. There is no sign of winter, except in the mountains above 1000 meters.
