Bavaria: The “Heimatteller” will soon be available in canteens – Bavaria

Recently, the impression has been given that the topic of nutrition had been assigned to the State Chancellery in the course of a secret cabinet reshuffle. A lot has already been written about everything that Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) presents on social media under hashtags like #soederisst – and I’m puzzled as to what that’s supposed to be. It is guaranteed that it is not used for self-portrayal, but to support local products. Incidentally, on Wednesday there was calf’s head; recently also asparagus, Söder only fears the “asparagus shock” when it comes to wind turbines. Now the actually responsible Minister of Agriculture, Michaela Kaniber (CSU), follows up: with the “home plate”.

By 2025, at least 50 percent of the ingredients in state canteens should come from regional and organic production, as a role model. With the “Heimatteller” campaign, Kaniber not only wants to whet the appetite for regional food, but also wants it to be visible to the guests, it was said after the start in a company canteen on Wednesday. Even with 50 percent from Bavarian production, a lunch becomes a “home plate”, recognizable by a logo. Great thing, Argentinian steak with Mexican avocados has never been a particularly smart choice from a climate point of view. And yet Söder comes into play again. Kaniber’s predecessors already took care of canteens, the demonstrative motto is new. Only on Monday did Söder explain what the CSU wants to broadcast before the state elections: just home, a “Bavarian feeling”. Maybe there will be some gut decisions in 2023.
