Bavaria: smugglers cradle young people for hours in the trunk – Bavaria

No food for days and cooped up in a confined space for several hours: Federal police officers found a twelve-year-old and an 18-year-old in the trunk of suspected smugglers during a check on the border with Austria. The siblings stated that they had been on the road for several hours without a break, a spokesman for the Federal Police Inspectorate in Passau reported.

The driver didn’t stop, so they had to defecate in cups. In addition, both said they had not eaten for several days and were very thirsty.

According to the information, the officials checked the vehicle with German registration on Monday in a parking lot near Kirchdorf am Inn. The 29-year-old driver and his one-year-old passenger, both Syrian nationals, identified themselves with German residence permits. According to the federal police, four other men between the ages of 22 and 31 were sitting in the back seat – they could not have identified themselves.

When the trunk was opened, the two young people were discovered. A preliminary investigation into the smuggling of foreigners under life-threatening conditions was initiated against the suspected smugglers. At the request of the public prosecutor’s office, the two men were taken to prisons. The passengers received reports of unauthorized entry. One person was handed over to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, the other inmates had to go back to Austria.
