Bavaria receives the first solar system on a large monument – Bavaria

According to authorities, Bavaria will receive the first solar system on a large monument. The system with 20,000 solar tiles is currently being installed on a monastery in Würzburg’s old town, the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation announced on Thursday. This involves a roof area of 1530 square meters. Large parts of the monastery are to be supplied with renewable energy by the end of the year.

In listed buildings, photovoltaic systems have previously often been viewed as a challenge. An amendment to the Monument Protection Act passed in June is intended to make installation easier and to better harmonize sustainable energy and monument protection. The model project in Würzburg is an essentially baroque four-wing complex, the motherhouse of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Redeemer.
