Bavaria: Ministry makes it easier for daycare centers to hire career changers – Bavaria

More staff for Bavaria’s daycare centers: In order to achieve this, the Ministry of Family Affairs has lowered the hurdles for hiring career changers. The new general order has made it easier and quicker for daycare centers to hire skilled workers without traditional educator or childcare training since Thursday, the ministry said.

Such exceptions therefore had to be carefully and individually checked beforehand. According to the ministry, the simplified requirements apply, for example, to career changers with a German bachelor’s degree or diploma in pedagogy, educational sciences or educational sciences. Another requirement is that the applicants have worked in a daycare center in the educational field for at least six months.

The Bavarian Association of Catholic Daycare Centers welcomed the amendment as an important relief for daycare providers and specialists. They would now have more security and less effort if they wanted to hire career changers.

However, it is important to the association that the skilled worker quota and the skilled worker-child ratio should not be reduced, nor should language requirements. Labor and Family Minister Ulrike Scharf (CSU) emphasized that the quality of early childhood education is a top priority and is non-negotiable.
