Bavaria has almost as many tourists as before Corona – Bavaria

The State Statistical Office reports 17.3 million guests for the first half of the year, more than a quarter more than in the first half of last year.

In the first year without corona restrictions since 2020, tourists flocked to Bavaria again in almost the usual numbers. The State Statistical Office in Fürth reported 17.3 million guests for the first half of the year on Thursday, more than a quarter more than in the first half of last year. The statisticians also counted 44.7 million overnight stays, an increase of almost 18 percent. Accordingly, the sales of hoteliers and innkeepers have risen sharply.

The corona pandemic had plunged tourism into a deep crisis. In the meantime, however, the old level has almost been reached again. For comparison: Before the pandemic, there were 18.1 million guests and 45.3 million overnight stays in the first half of 2019. However, the proportion of foreign visitors is still comparatively low: previously it was just under a quarter, now it is a good fifth. According to the State Office for Statistics, sales in the hospitality industry rose by a nominal 22.7 percent compared to the first half of 2022, or by 12.2 percent after deducting inflation.
