Bavaria: General practitioners miss appreciation during the pandemic – Bavaria

Despite the falling number of corona infections, there is no relaxation in sight in Bavaria’s family doctor’s practices. “We continue to work on the attack – testing, vaccination,” said the chairman of the Bavarian Association of General Practitioners, Markus Beier, on Wednesday. Added to this would be the care of war refugees from the Ukraine.

Beier criticized the fact that politicians had not recognized the performance of the practices in the past two years of the pandemic with either bonus payments or tax breaks. In addition, the general practitioners are not involved in the key federal corona committees, for example in the Federal Government’s Expert Council. The general practitioners have gained a lot of experience – in Bavaria alone, out of around 27 million vaccinations against Covid-19, around 12.5 million were given by paediatricians and general practitioners. Beier spoke of a tugging time.

At the Bavarian House Doctors’ Day from May 13th to 14th in Erlangen, the participants want to discuss these and other problems with Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU), among others. In Bavaria, unlike in the federal government, general practitioners are much better involved in pandemic issues, said Beier.
