The desire to get married in Bavaria has fallen – at least in the first ten months of last year. According to the State Statistical Office, 52,607 couples said yes from the beginning of January to the end of October 2023. That was a clear kink: In the same period in 2022, there were 3,849 more weddings, as the Fürth authorities announced on Friday.
Even in a multi-year comparison, 2023 was apparently not a good year for weddings: According to the state office, the number of registered marriages in the first ten months was almost five percent below the median for the years 2018 to 2021. The median is the central value of a series of numbers, in each case half of the values are above or below.
The most popular wedding days in 2023 were schnapps paydays: at the top was June 23, 2023 with 1,026 weddings, followed by September 9, on which 993 couples got married. The 5.5 followed in third place. with 937 weddings. Valentine’s Day, on the other hand, is not a popular day for getting married: According to the state office, there were only 105 marriages on February 14, 2023. The figures for the entire year are not yet available.
