A boy capsizes his kayak on a river in Upper Bavaria. He could only be recovered dead. Crisis teams look after the other young people.

An eleven-year-old died in an accident while kayaking on the Ammer in Upper Bavaria on Saturday. The boy belonged to a group of 14 people from the Rosenheim district who were traveling on the river, the police said in the evening. Shortly after 3 p.m., his kayak capsized in front of a bridge in Rottenbuch, and the boy was later reported missing. Water rescue, mountain rescue service and police took part in the search. The child was found dead around 5:45 p.m.

“The search and rescue measures were extremely difficult due to the strong current and accordingly took a long time,” the police said. The other eight children and five adults from the group were looked after by crisis teams.
