Bavaria: Corona fines add up to almost 40 million euros – Bavaria

During the corona pandemic, the Bavarian municipalities initiated almost 237,000 administrative offense proceedings for violations of the Infection Protection Ordinance, 38,000 are still open. In total, the waived fine adds up to almost 40 million euros. This emerges from a response from the Ministry of Health to a request from the AfD in the state parliament.

Measured against the number of inhabitants, most proceedings were initiated in Upper Bavaria, a total of 123,743, which corresponds to around 2.5 proceedings per 100 inhabitants. There, in turn, the city of Ingolstadt stands out, where the fine totals around 1.14 million euros. For comparison: In Munich, which has more than ten times as many inhabitants, it is around 3.2 million euros. The fewest procedures per 100 inhabitants (1.3) were in Upper Franconia, a total of 13,816.

There is currently a debate going on about the repayment of unjustifiably imposed corona fines. To this end, the Ministry of Health wants to provide the municipalities with specific instructions for implementation. The background: The Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig ruled in November that the strict exit restrictions in the Free State in April 2020 were disproportionate. The judges thus rejected an appeal by the state government against a previous judgment of the Bavarian Administrative Court.
