Bavaria: At the end of March there are no trains between Nuremberg and Bamberg – Bavaria

Because the route is to be expanded to four tracks, the route there will be temporarily closed for construction work. Some trains will be diverted, but buses will be used for some stops.

Due to the expansion of the railway line between Nuremberg and Bamberg, the route will be closed in the last week of March. From March 24th to 31st there will be no trains, as Deutsche Bahn announced on Wednesday. Instead, work is being carried out “around the clock”, said overall project manager Nicole Kumpfmüller-Böhm: 600 construction workers will then be deployed on Bavaria’s currently largest railway construction site. The route is to be expanded to four tracks in the course of this year.

Overall, the railway wants to complete 16 bridges, two S-Bahn stations and the Eggolsheim overtaking station. The railways, the federal government and the Free State are investing around 160 million euros in the four-track expansion between Nuremberg and Bamberg in 2023 alone, as it was also said. For the duration of the closure, ICE trains will be diverted extensively between Erfurt and Nuremberg via Fulda and Würzburg. All ICE stops in Coburg, Bamberg and Erlangen are therefore omitted. Buses run as a substitute for the regional trains.
