An exhibition in the Bavarian Main State Archives is dedicated to the opponents of vaccination, whose existence dates back to the beginnings of compulsory vaccination 200 years ago. Ultimately, it is also a story of failure.

Death, suffering and frustration – the corona pandemic has brought all this with it, and on top of that, public life has largely been shut down and many livelihoods have been destroyed as a result. In the wake of the pandemic, skepticism about and opposition to vaccination in society has also inflated, resulting in exhausting conflicts and debates. Of course, this development was not new. Reservations and resistance to vaccination have existed since the discovery of the first effective smallpox vaccine in the late 18th century.
