Bavaria and the “Instagram Boyfriends” – Bavaria

According to the list of a travel portal, there are a particularly large number of small towns in Bavaria that are beautiful – in other words: suitable for Instagram. However, if you want to minimize the risk of falling over men lying on the ground, you should choose other excursion destinations.

Whether the world used to be a better one is ultimately in the eye of the beholder. Surely she was an easier one. For example, anyone who wanted to take photos of Bavarian sights chose a point of view and pulled the trigger. Today, on the other hand, before you focus on what is worth seeing, you first have to look down on the ground: not that you stumble across a representative of the species that even lying on the ground tries to illuminate your partner at the optimal smartphone angle for the digital followers. Such gentlemen are called “Instagram Boyfriends”, after the social media platform of the same name.

And thus to a list that is already a few weeks old and yet continues to make the rounds on the net. The travel portal Travelcircus has determined the most photogenic small towns in Germany – a title that is not measured by the number of men lying on the ground, but at least by the number of mentions on Instagram. Bavaria sends several representatives into the top 20. Füssen is in first place thanks to Neuschwanstein Castle, Rothenburg ob der Tauber as a half-timbered ensemble in third.

There are quite a few surprises behind it. Bad Tölz (10th) narrowly beats Burghausen (11th), Eichstätt (12th) and Miltenberg (13th). And Dingolfing made it to 18th place, although so far it has been known less for its picturesque charm and more for the huge BMW car factory. But “not only the chic city itself, but also the beautiful surroundings are really ideal as a destination and definitely also as a photo motif,” it says. This must mean the traffic on the passing A 92 and the many industrial buildings to the left and right.

It is good news for tourism professionals when pictures of their own place are often shared on Instagram and perhaps tempt them to visit. However, the list could serve as a warning to anti-trend travelers. You should definitely head for Arzberg instead. The Fichtelgebirge town is considered one of the big losers in the ranking because it has lost the number of entries compared to the previous year and is only ranked 547th. The risk of falling over any boyfriends should be comparatively low.
