Bavaria: 29-euro ticket for young people starts in September – Bavaria

From autumn, trainees, students and those doing voluntary service in Bavaria will be able to use the reduced Deutschlandticket for 29 euros. “The Bavarian discount ticket is a Germany ticket at a reduced price,” said Bavaria’s Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter (CSU) on Wednesday in Munich. It is intended specifically for young people who, although not yet earning a lot of money, are dependent on public transport for training, studies or voluntary service – often across associations.

With the 29-euro ticket, young passengers can use local public transport flexibly anywhere in Germany and even at some foreign destinations such as Salzburg or Kufstein, it said. It is therefore suitable for all training, but also leisure paths. The Free State of Bavaria will pay 20 euros of the ticket price.

Like every Germany ticket, the ticket is issued as a digital subscription and can be canceled every month. In order to receive the ticket, signed proof of the educational institution is usually required, for example the vocational school or vocational school, in the case of voluntary services from the respective provider. In some cases there are different ordering processes, for example via job ticket agreements with employers.

Trainees and volunteers should note that their order must be with the transport company 14 days before the start of validity. If you want to use the inexpensive ticket from September, you should have ordered by August 17th. The ticket is valid for trainees and volunteers from September 1st, students can use it from the winter semester 2023/24, i.e. usually from October 1st. Anyone who has already paid for a regional semester ticket with their semester fee can have this credited to the price of 29 euros. The students would be informed about the ordering process via their universities and student unions.

“It is our clear intention to create a discounted offer for young people in Bavaria who are dependent on public transport on their way to training or study. For 29 euros across Germany is an excellent thing,” said Bernreiter. The Ministry of Transport expects the Free State of Bavaria to pay 55 million euros in 2023 as a result of the partial assumption of costs. In addition to the discount ticket, there will continue to be all known tariff offers for young people in training, such as 365-euro tickets or training monthly tickets. Pupils, on the other hand, cannot receive the discount ticket.
