There is speculation about world champion coach Gordon Herbert. But the Canadian has clearly decided on his immediate basketball future.

Basketball national coach Gordon Herbert has denied rumors of a possible move to the Euroleague. “Nobody has to worry. I wouldn’t leave the national team,” said 64-year-old Herbert to “Bild”.

The “Hamburger Abendblatt” had previously reported that there were already negotiations between the French Euroleague club Asvel Lyon-Villeurbanne and Herbert.

No worries for Weiss

According to his own words, the rumors about a possible change did not worry the President of the German Basketball Federation (DBB), Ingo Weiss. “When I read that, I initially smiled and was happy. Because it’s completely clear: When you’re world champion, the coach is in demand, the environment is in demand, and of course the players are in demand,” the 60-year-old told dpa .

However, Weiss referred to the contract extension with Herbert until 2025 before the World Cup with the first title win in Manila. “Gordie made it clear again yesterday that no one has to worry about him not going to the Olympic Games,” said Weiss. The coach said this to the “Bild” newspaper. “We are glad that in Gordie Herbert we have a coach who has fun and who cares about the athletes,” said the president. The topic is actually not an issue.
