The new university semester begins – and with it the time when many students who are new to Munich ask themselves: What do I do when I have a break? Where do I go when the last lecture of the day is over? Here are ten tips in the university area.
Türkenhof
The Türkenhof has been known for generations as a reliable source for relaxed evenings. There is beer, ham noodles and schnitzel. Especially the two kickers in the back area of the bar, which spit out nine balls for 50 cents, quickly create a good atmosphere. Anyone who had a good time at the Türkenhof should definitely try the Alter Simpl, diagonally opposite, and the Wirtshaus Atzinger, around the corner. All three restaurants: tried and tested, cozy and reliably good.

sound & smoke
Anyone who thinks that only a limited number of people can fit at a table has never been in smoke and mirrors. Anyone else come along spontaneously? No problem. It’s always possible to slide down here, but it’s difficult to get through afterwards. This setting creates a particularly lively atmosphere in what is a café by day and bar by night.

hiccup
Red walls, a 360-degree bar, a foosball table, and plenty of bar stools add up to the hiccups. The pub is particularly popular among students because of the fair prices. Quite atypically for Munich, you can get a beer here for 3.10 euros or a vodka bull for 6.60 euros. But the hiccups aren’t just because of the prices, the atmosphere is always particularly good. Most of them like to come back.

Cafe at the university
The cafe at the university is better known as the Cadu. Opposite the main building of the LMU, the restaurant provides guests with good food and drinks. In the evening, the music is often turned up louder, which creates a relaxed atmosphere. Whether inside, outside or in the conservatory.

lost weekend
The concept of the Lost Weekend is special. Not only is small talk held here all evening, as artists often perform on the small stage of the bar. While most guests come here to study during the day, the tables are cleared away in the evening. There isn’t a weekend when it isn’t full.

Schwabinger 7
A classic among Munich bars is Schwabinger 7. For decades, the rock pub was housed at number 7 before it was demolished and reopened at Feilitzschstrasse 15.
A small spiral staircase leads down from the entrance to the bar. The round vault is lit by candles stuck in bottles – a sombre atmosphere. Here you also meet older guests and are not always asked directly: “What are you studying?”

Fancy a trip out of Munich? Then off to Café Bangkok. Cloths and lamps hang from the ceiling, creating a special flair. Apart from the nice decor, the bar offers good deals. Some nights it’s two for the price of one.

Zeitgeist
The zeitgeist is calm and beautiful. Green plants dangle from the ceiling here. If you want to talk to soft music, this is the place for you. In addition, one of the good drinks in hand – a good prerequisite for an informal evening. A similar mood as in Soda, a corner further.

hop cone
Some feel at home, others find it a bit uncomfortable, but everyone agrees on one thing: the hop cone is unique. Uniquely low prices. Uniquely dirty toilets. And above all, a uniquely good atmosphere. For a deposit, guests can borrow darts at the bar – this is a great way to make new friends. Also on Thursday and Sunday at the karaoke evening. After a round of “On Days Like These” together, there are no longer any strangers in the room.
