A massive Superman poster is for sale at Bares for Rares. Steve Mandel initially shows off his knowledge – but at the subsequent auction he is left behind.

“Superman is alive”, Horst Lichter states when entering the “Bares für Rares” studios. There is a huge poster of the cartoon character. Lights wants to know from Sven Deutschmanek who his personal superhero is. “My grandfather,” replies the expert. Horst Lichter, on the other hand, prefers Batman Superpowers, he’s just training. And has great things” is the plausible explanation.

The poster was brought to the ZDF flea show by Claudia Bleher-Stark and Mark Bleher. The couple from Gäufelden would like to improve their holiday budget. Expert Deutschmanek tells how the famous superhero was created by the two American teenagers Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in the 1930s, and the character as we know it today first appeared in comics in June 1938.

“Bares for Rares”: Steve Mandel impresses his colleague

Bleher would like 150 euros for the poster. However, Deutschmanek cannot imagine that: He considers 80 to 120 euros to be realistic. In the dealer room, Steve Mandel turns out to be a connoisseur of the matter: “Superman wasn’t Marvel Comics, which is what we know today in the Marvel Universe, but DC Comics, and they also released Batman.” Lisa Nüdling is impressed by her colleague’s knowledge and exclaims: “You are my Superman!”

Walter “Waldi” Lehnertz offers his obligatory 80 euros at the start – that would mean that the lower estimate has already been reached. But Mandel and Markus Wildhagen are also interested and drive the price up to 160 euros – the latter is awarded the contract for this sum. Despite his impressive knowledge, Steve Mandel gets nothing.
