Bardella calls for “regulation” of fake accounts on social networks

Some people believe it. Others, fortunately, see the deception. In any case, fake accounts have an influence on political life. The president of the National Rally, Jordan Bardella, called on Saturday for “regulation” of these “deepfakes”, or hyperfakes.

It is no coincidence that the RN candidate in the European elections raises this subject. Several accounts currently bring to life so-called young female members of Marine Le Pen’s family, such as that of Amandine.

“I call on the public authorities to take this phenomenon into account and perhaps to think about legislation that could allow us to protect the democratic debate from the multiplication of these deepfakes,” asked Jordan Bardella on the sidelines of a trip to New Aquitaine.

“I think that we will not be able to do without regulation on these questions,” he said, pointing out the risk of “disrupting” the functioning of elections and democracy, in particular through the dissemination of “ fake news.”

Asked about a possible complaint, the president of the RN kicked in. “We will see what follow-up we give to this malicious use,” he said, stressing that there are “many, many” deepfakes of this type. “We are not behind these accounts,” he assured.
